SUMMARY:UKAIS Seminar: AI Mindfulness in Policing: A Typological Theory’
 with Dr Federico Iannacci
DESCRIPTION:UKAIS is delighted to announce a seminar on the 25th of June at
12pm delivered by Dr Federico Iannacci\, Associate Professor at the Unive
rsity of Sussex and Senior Editor at the Information Systems Journal.\nThe
title of Federico’s presentation is ‘AI Mindfulness in Policing: A Ty
pological Theory’ and the abstract follows. Please find the Zoom link be
low.\nAbstract. Drawing on generalised analytic induction\, we explore th
e conditions leading to the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mind
fulness in the context of policing in England and Wales. We define AI Min
dfulness as a cognitive state stemming from risk-awareness and openness
to the value-adding applications of AI tools. Our results show that AI Min
dfulness emerges when users distrust AI\, perceive that AI is risky and fi
nd AI regulations unclear or distrust AI\, perceive AI as risky and find A
I tools unexplainable. However\, users that find AI regulations clear and
AI tools explainable are more likely to take an ambivalent stance towards
AI by simultaneously trusting it and perceiving it as risky. Accordingly\,
we uncover three distinct types of mindful AI users: the AI-Regulation Sc
eptic\, the AI-Opposed User and the AI-Ambivalent User. Our typology has w
ider implications for the responsible design and use of AI tools.\n\nI loo
k forward to seeing you then.\nBest wishes\,\nDimitra\n\n---\nDimitra Petr
akaki is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.\n\nTopic: UKAIS seminar
