The UKAIS is delighted to invite you to an online seminar by Dr Yingqin Zheng called Exploring Spatiality and Temporality in Information Systems Research.

The seminar will take place from 2pm to 3pm via Zoom on 29 May 2025. To join the seminar, please follow this Zoom link.

Abstract
In information systems (IS) research, temporality has often been conceptualized through a linear, clock-based view of time, while spatiality is typically associated with geographical locations, physical places, or applied through a container-like notion of space. In this presentation, I examine these concepts with process thinking, departing from exogenous and independent perceptions of time and space. Instead, temporality and spatiality are understood as entangled, relational, becoming, and enacted through sociomaterial practices. Drawing on examples from the IS literature and my own research, I explore the theoretical and methodological implications of adopting a process perspective of time and space for IS research.
