It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of Professor Ray Paul who passed away on 29 March 2022. Our thoughts are with his wife, Jasna, and family at this difficult time.

Ray was a valued member, and significant contributor to, the information systems (IS) community for many years. First at the London School of Economics (LSE) and then at Brunel University.  Ray was a mentor to many IS individuals who remember him with great affection and gratitude. He was amazingly PhD supervisor to 55 students, that he treated as his “family”. Ray was very intelligent and had a propensity for striking exactly the right note in any situation. He was a great ‘discombobulater’, who liked to propose striking ideas, hoping to stir things up and get a good discussion going. Ray was formidable in meetings and you did not want to be on the wrong side of him if your arguments could not withstand his forensic analysis. He was for all this a very generous and good natured person who would help anyone out. He has been called a “one off” the like of which we will probably never see again.

His many achievements include the creation of the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) and was its Editor of 12 years. He also helped  found the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) and he was a great supporter of UKAIS and was President (2012-2013). Ray will be remembered with great fondness and respect by all in UKAIS.
