Led by Professor Savvas Papagiannidis, Dr Roba Abbas, Dr Maria Kutar and Dr Oliver Kayas, these critical commentaries on artificial intelligence (AI) bring together a series of short pieces exploring how IS academics and professionals can constructively engage with the ways in which universities and organisations are responding to AI. It comprises accessible, practice-facing critical pieces that position the UKAIS and IEEE communities as important voices in current debates about AI adoption in universities, organisations, and wider society.
The critical commentaries on AI are framed through the lens of “See it. Say it. Sort it.” Across the critical commentaries, contributors examine themes such as the growing gap between AI enthusiasm and genuine socio technical expertise, the risks of allowing visibility and experimentation to substitute for institutional knowledge, and the consequences of overlooking governance, digital literacy, and systems thinking in AI strategy and adoption.
The campaign is a joint initiative of UKAIS and the Socio-Technical Systems Technical Committee of the IEEE Society on the Social Implications of Technology.
